Vintage Guitar Magazine

“On his fourth independent release, Isakov displays his flair for musical subtlety and understatement. With songs that seduce with their bittersweet quality, his vocal syle floats like a feather in the gentle wind. Though recorded in his apartment, the sound is equal to what you’ll hear on a studio effort.” – Vintage Guitar Magazine

VINYL PRE-ORDER

http://stores.channeladvisor.com/vinylhome/Items/SH156-1

there’s these moments we all have as musicians when it feels like you have made a mark in the world.. that the music has its own path and its own mind. like one of those moments where you think to yourself “man, we kinda made it!” a lot of bands say that moment comes when they first got signed or their first sold out show. for me it was opening a white blank LP cover of the test vinyl and placing it on my turntable. and listening. so i can’t even describe in any other way how excited i am about This Empty Northern Hemisphere being available on vinyl through our great friends and partners at Suburban Home Records. it should be out in a month or so, and theres a limited run of these. so here’s where to go:

Ani Difranco Tour and End of August Press Release

For Immediate Release

GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV ANNOUNCES TOUR WITH ANI DIFRANCO

ISAKOV’S NEW ALBUM,
THIS EMPTY NORTHERN HEMISPHERE, RELEASED TO CRITICAL ACCLAIM

PASTE MAGAZINE NAMES GREGORY IN THEIR “BEST OF WHAT’S NEXT” LIST

“It’s impossible to know Isakov and not want to
shout his name from the mountaintops.” – Denver Post

“[Isakov] makes quietly lush, deeply vibrant music more rooted in the starry night sky…than any terrestrial locale.” – Paste Magazine

Gregory Alan Isakov’s understated and heartbreaking vocals highlight his new album This Empty Northern Hemisphere, which was released this summer to rave reviews. Recently named on Paste Magazine’s “Best of What’s Next” list and fresh off tour dates with Brandi Carlile and the Indigo Girls, Isakov today announces a string of dates with Ani DiFranco, as well as a coveted performance on the floating songwriter showcase, Camayo Cruise. Additionally, Isakov will soon announce a long list of headlining stops this fall.

Reviews are singing Isakov’s praises, calling This Empty Northern Hemisphere “an artistic masterwork” (Denver Post) and “a quiet revelation” (Daily Camera). Critics aren’t the only ones paying attention; the Indigo Girls’ Amy Ray calls Gregory “hands down one of the best new songwriters on the scene.”

The highly anticipated album is Isakov’s latest collection of songs in which he conjures the miracles and heartaches of day to day living then transforms them into melodies, with a serious commitment to songcraft and musicianship.

Before hitting the road with Ani DiFranco, Isakov will return to Red Rocks Amphitheatre’s indie rock music festival, Monolith, to perform on the main stage at one of the nation’s most legendary venues.

Current tourdates include:
September 12 Monolith Festival – Red Rocks Amphitheatre Morrison CO
September 13 Paramount Theatre Aurora IL supporting Ani DiFranco
September 15 Mayo Civic Center Rochester MN supporting Ani DiFranco
September 16 DECC Auditorium Duluth MN supporting Ani DiFranco
September 18 Fargo Theater Fargo ND supporting Ani DiFranco
September 19 Burton Cummings Theatre Winnipeg, MB CANADA supporting Ani DiFranco
September 20 First Avenue Minneapolis MN supporting Ani DiFranco
September 22 Riverside Ballroom Green Bay WI supporting Ani DiFranco
September 23 The Vic Theatre Chicago IL supporting Ani DiFranco
September 25 Michigan Theater Ann Arbor MI supporting Ani DiFranco

More dates to be announced. Please visit the newly revamped website www.gregoryalanisakov.com for more information.

“Writing and performing is a mystery to me,” explains the South African born multi-instrumentalist Gregory Alan Isakov. “I try to get myself out of the way as much as I can.”
“There were moments while making the new album that were so different than anything I’ve done before,” says Isakov, who combines his personal past with poetry to create a musically visceral present.
His music dubbed “punk folk” by the Indigo Girls’ Amy Ray, Isakov has been recognized by critics and colleagues as a real and original talent. In 2008, Denver’s Westword named Isakov their Best Acoustic Folk Artist. The previous year he was given the paper’s Best of Denver Singer-Songwriter award; they called him “a rootsier Glen Phillips channeling Kelly Joe Phelps.”
Comparisons don’t bother Isakov; he’s brought his influences into the fold for This Empty Northern Hemisphere. “Everyone I’ve ever listened to made it into the record—It’s like a traveling circus.” And Isakov is its truth and beauty-seeking ringmaster.

PASTE – Best of What’s Next

Best of What’s Next 2009: Gregory Alan Isakov [Musician]

Album: This Empty Northern Hemisphere
For Fans Of:

Townes Van Zandt

Born in South Africa and raised in Philadelphia,
Gregory Alan Isakov makes quietly lush, deeply vibrant music more rooted in the starry night sky—like the one on the cover of his latest LP—than any terrestrial locale.
Brandi Carlile picks and croons on five of the album’s tracks and took Isakov on the road with her for a spring tour. If he takes a cue from her slow, steady, solid playbook, he’ll do well for himself.
